Guidelines for Writing to President Robert Mugabe

Pray for wisdom from the Lord as you begin this task. Ask the Holy Spirit to bridle your mind, taking your thoughts captive to Christ, guiding your pen. Send a message of genuine, heartfelt love.
We suggest you use a post card. We do not need to limit this message of God’s love to just President Mugabe! Pray over your card. Ask the Lord to change the hearts and minds of every person who handles your card or letter. (US postage for a post card up to 4×6 inches is 28 cents as of Nov. 13, 2009.)
Please keep your message positive. Write with “holy hands,” free of “wrath and dissension.” Avoid the terms sin and forgiveness. Avoid any comments about the political or economic climate. President Mugabe knows what he has done. He knows the condition of his country. He does not need to be reminded by us! His response to attacks has been to lash out at his critics, rather than change his ways.
The world is backing him into a corner. Our flesh rises up and says, “That’s the least that he deserves!” Already, our holy hands have become fouled with wrath and dissension! Condemnation, ridicule and scorn appear to have only made President Mugabe more defensive and defiant. God calls us to approach our rulers in a different manner.
Remember, “…our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph. 6:12). And our ways are not the Lord’s ways, so surrender to Christ’s ability to do what our flesh cannot. Write and pray with holy hands.
The world will call us fools for choosing to use love rather than force, threats, intimidation and economic sanctions. These methods fail the holy hands test and, to date, have not worked. Let’s give God’s way a chance! Send your card today!
